Help! I'm snoring and I can't shut up!

I don't usually blog at work, but I need some help...

Those of you that know me well are aware that I snore. And that it's pretty loud. While it's been an annoyance for my roommates, it hasn't been a huge problem for me before, because I still sleep through it, and the roommates that I've had were either heavy sleepers, or found some other way to deal with it--closing doors, ear plugs, falling asleep before me, etc.

Well, now I've got someone trying to sleep next to me, whose sleep is actually important to me. Not that I didn't care about my roommates... I just didn't care enough to do much about it before. Poor Hayley has tried everything, but some nights it just isn't enough to let her sleep. I feel horrible that I keep her up, so does anyone have any suggestions or snoring remedies that will help? I'm using Breathe Right Strips right now and I stay awake reading so Hayley can try to fall asleep before me. Hayley is also using ear plugs, but those make her ears hurt the rest of the day. From the little bit of research I've done this morning, I am going sleep with just the curvy pillow that Hayley already had and keep my head in the correct position to keep my breathing passage open, and I might try to sleep with an under-bite because of this, but does anyone know of anything that really works? If you do, please let me know! Hayley will be thankful and I'll feel better knowing I'm not keeping her up all night long.

Oh, as a post script, I'm going to be working on losing weight again... that seems to be the best remedy for snoring. When I weigh less, I snore less. So no more free soda at work, no more sneaking treats from the secret stash in the finance office, and only fruit from work on Treat Friday. (Holy crap, my workplace is probably making me gain 5 pounds a week!!!) But if you have suggestions that will work in less time than it takes me to lose 20-30 pounds, I'd appreciate them.

I snore too. Since I was pregnant with Will, I've been snoring. So I end up sleeping on the couch. But I've been married for 10 years and I am okay with a couple hours away from Kevin. I doubt if that is a solution you'll like.

I just read about this on Hayley's blog and I made a comment on just how bad I feel for her. I think I have a slight idea of what she is experiencing. I remember having to beat you with a pillow in the night on our trip to NYC to make you stop for just a little bit but it wasn't all that effective. I wish there was a solution. My mom snored horribly for years. Eventually she had to go as far as surgery. I can't remember at the moment what the procedure was but it really did cure the problem and she no longer snored after.

Losing weight is also another factor that could help, which you mentioned. My suggestion...go back to dub dubs. You know that's the best way to go. I'm just sayin!

I would go to a sleep clinic and hopefully they'll figure out what you might need to be done. Most likely it's a C-paf machine that works WONDERS...I know about 5 or 6 men who have them now. It basically forces air and mositure into your nose and keeps you from snoring. Look into it...it's wonderful!

Garret, I actually think you have sleep apnea. I have been diagnosed from it and I am telling you its a scarey thing if you don't get it fixed. I have a husband that snores his fool head off and I totally understand what your wife is going through. Go to your doc and ask for a sleep apnea sleep study.

I wish I could help you here - but Adam snores and I haven't been able to stop it for 12 years.

Although his isn't super loud so I can tolerate it.
